Protest — a grotesque typeface that has one spelling. The main feature of it is the modification of characters depending on the choice of uppercase or lowercase. Each letter-sign consists of two graphic characters contrasting each other with bold and thin font properties. Thus, in the design of phrases and sentences, it becomes possible to find a non-regular balance.
The ideology of the typeface design is a protest, or denial of cultural heritage in typography. The font is hyper-emotional, hysterical and "typocritic". Broken and heterogeneous forms of letters are contrasted with well-defined and clear font families. The alternation of thick and thin lines, as well as the combination of round and angular forms in the characters of the font deny the etiquette of the generally accepted rules of composition. This project shows the changes in techniques and rules in font design were also influenced by such a massive subcultural phenomenon — counterculture. A counterculture is a subculture whose values and norms of behavior differ substantially from those of mainstream society.
