22nd Street Caltrain Station Gateway
The 22nd Street Caltrain Station gateway was a neglected but heavily trafficked passage area in Potrero Hill, San Francisco. The neighborhood organisation - the Green Benefit District (GBD) commissioned Fletcher Studio to propose a quality but budget conscious design that would improve the site and benefit the local community and the commuters alike.
I worked with the studio Principal David and our client GBD extensively to come up with designs that help the client attract funding for the project, as well as going through numerous iterations to meet realistic goals of having the project implemented, tweaking every little elements down to color of the fence, form of the benches, paving pattern and finishes, lighting etc.
The result is a revamped entry at the southbound 22nd St Caltrain station that includes new metal fence, lighting, planting and concrete works that not only improves the amenity, safety and friendliness of what was once a chaotic passageway, but further encourages positive use and social engagement of this heavily trafficked public space.
