The objective of this shoot was to create a commercial layout featuring a poured beverage and a splashed beverage, one graphical and one emotional in nature. Graphical layouts are more conceptual and emotional layouts are more realistic, evoking an emotional connection by visually engaging the other senses. The emotional setup features a poured beverage and the graphical setup features a splashed beverage.
To create the above image, the bottom of a bottle of beer was cut off, forming a funnel. The funnel was attached to a cross rod above the frame. The funnel was plugged and filled with beer. When the plug was removed, the contents of the funnel drained rapidly, causing a splash in the almost-full glass positioned below it.

The force of pulling out the plug may have caused the funnel to move out of line from the glass below. To solve this concern, two assistants steadied the funnel as it was unplugged and the splash was composited with an image of the bottle without the assistants' hands.
To create the emotional pour image above, the bottle and glass were prepped to appear frosty and covered in condensation, however everything pictured is at room temperature including the shards of "ice" around the bottle and glass. The prepped props are pictured below prior to being poured:
