el dorado - find the missing gold

EL DORADO

For hundreds of years, treasure hunters and historians alike have searched for El Dorado, the lost city of gold. The idea of a city filled with gold and other riches has a natural appeal, drawing the attention of individuals from all over the world in hopes of discovering the ultimate treasure, and ancient wonder. In spite of numerous expeditions around all of Latin America, the city of gold remains a legend, with no physical evidence to substantiate its existence.
The brief university gave me was to design a travel poster for a fictional place. My take on this brief is to make it illustration based highlighting the search for gold. I illustrated treasure hunters looking for the treasure. I never showed the actual gold in the posters because I want to communicate the mysterious story behind el dorado, if i was to show the gold, it would defeat the point on the hidden treasure which has never been seen before. Instead, my persuasion in these posters is that the gold is out there somewhere but you have to find it.
I used a custom hand-generated typeface called "el sans". The roughly rendered typeface is supposed to link to the terrain in the jungle rainforest where the gold is supposedly hidden. I used the film el dorado by Disney as reference and inspiration. I drew the typeface freehand on A3 paper so i could get the imperfections, followed by me scanning it in and image tracing it.
