APPROACHES- 3D Fabrication

Exercise 3- Prototype
Prototype:  Scrap wood, pieces of stretched fabric, found objects, 2019 (in front of a window)

Prototype:  Scrap wood, pieces of stretched fabric, found objects, 2019 (back side)
Project Description
For this assignment, I created this prototype sculpture for my final project.  I called this sculpture, An Ode to my Closet, because I decided to use stretched pieces of old shirts and an old scarf for my skin.  I also added some found objects such as an old dream catcher I previously made and three small trinkets that were on my dresser.  I purposely used parallel and nonparallel pieces of wood set at different angles along with contrasting levels of opaque fabrics to convey the idea of oder verses chaos.

Critique Notes
As far as critique that I received when presenting this sculpture, I feel that it was well received and that I was successfully able to portray my ideas of oder verses chaos through this sculpture.  I received comments that it was a work of upholstery, which is something I've never done before, but I enjoyed experimenting with the technique.  I was warned about being more careful of my craftsmanship with my final sculpture.  Overall, I am pleased with how this sculpture turned out.
Exercise 2- Sketches
Sketches:  Paper and Ink, 2019
Project Description
I developed ten sketches for this assignment representing different ideas that are potential directions for my prototype and final sculpture.  The ideation that I focused on with these sketch experiments was a panel type sculpture.  I'm not sure on the skin material that I want to use yet, but I'm thinking something transparent to allude to a window panel.  I want to be able to see through this sculpture.
Exercise 1- Rapid Prototype
Rapid Prototype: Balsa wood, paper, hot glue, 8" x 5", 2019
Project Description
For this first project, we were tasked with creating a rapid prototype out of small pieces of Balsa wood.  I knew immediately what I wanted to create and was really thinking in terms of material and how I am going to create the basic concept of what I'd like to design for my final project.  I want to make a sort of stained glass panel widow.  I'm not decided yet on what kind of skin I want to use, but I have a basic idea.
