Statistics from the Cycle for Survival Initative

Since 2012, Park Ridge, IL, native Peter Hill has worked for Midwest Applied Solutions (MAS) in Hillside as a sales engineer. In addition to his professional activities, Peter Hill supports a number of philanthropic organizations in the Park Ridge, IL, area, as well as nationwide charities such as Cycle for Survival.

The Cycle for Survival initiative provides individuals with a concrete means of fighting back against some of the rarest cancers impacting people around the world. While these cancers are rare in the sense that they are not commonly seen, and less understood than other forms of the disease, nearly half of all people living with cancer have been diagnosed with a “rare cancer.” As the name suggests, Cycle for Survival events are based around bike rides of varying lengths. Active for more than a decade, the organization’s numbers speak for themselves.

To start, 100 percent of every dollar raised at Cycle for Survival events is directed towards cancer research efforts. Events owned and operated by the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, a registered 501(c)(3) charity, have raised more than $221 million since the first Cycle for Survival event in 2007, with $42 million raised in 2019 alone. The movement attracts more supporters every year, with 36,000 riders raising money and awareness in 2019.

More information about the organization’s impact, as well as information about supporting the cause beyond riding in an event, can be found at www.cycleforsurvival.org.
