The Purpose
The purpose of this project was to create a gig poster representing a band in a unique way. The image should make you think and lead you to the idea of what the band may symbolize.
Drafting
I went through many different sketches and variations of my gig poster until I got to the final concept is now. Each sketch followed the same thing but told it in different ways. I wanted people to understand that bands genre is jazz, but I wanted them to see it not only as a genre but as something that has been present for a long period of time and how it doesn’t change as drastically as the world has.
Back to the Drawing Board
Even when working on my poster, I found myself returning to my sketches, redrawing different things and making several changes after receiving much needed critiques. You can see that the poster changes drastically from what it was in the beginning to the end. I came to a point where I felt the colors needed to follow a theme and I decided to do research into old jazz posters and see the colors they used to represent them. This led me to using different hues of blue.
Feedback
The feedback led me to making changes from, the square shapes of buildings to a round futuristic shape allow me to get across the idea of the passage of time. It also helped me understand how I could incorporate the typography into my poster better.
The Final Result
When all was said and done, I felt that I really achieved the goal I was striving for. I was able to create an image that brings the mood of jazz and the idea. It also shows the passage of time in a unique way and helps symbolize what this band is about.
