ABOUT PROJECT:
Power consumption vs power generation is a global problem that needs sustainable solutions. As Cape Peninsula University of Technology Industrial Design Student were required to find new and futuristic ways to generate energy,that will help power up Cape Town City.We had to divide ourselves into a team of four people, as we research on technologies that are currently existing today and will be modified and sufficient in the next five years.Solar and Wind are popular energy consumption however we decided to research on other technologies that have the same potential and suitable to use at Western Cape Province.
TECHNOLOGY
Tribo-electricity is far the best according to research and many experiments were done to prove that tribo-electric technology is our future on saving and generating electricity. Tribo-electric technology is when a few substances(objects/materials) gets electrically charged due to the effect of friction.When separated, some of the bonded atoms have a tendency to keep extra electrons, and some tendency to give them away, possibly producing tribo-electric charges on the surfaces. Tribo-electricity works when materials are in contact, electrons flow from one material to the other. If the sheets are then separated, one material holds an electrical charge isolated by the gap between them. If an electrical load is then connected to two electrodes placed at the outer edges of the two surfaces, a small current will flow to equalize the charges.Based on material used different current flows.
ABOUT PRODUCT:
Sonic slippers uses tribo-electric technology to create electricity through movement of your daily routine. Using your daily movement of walking you will be able to generate enough electricity to warm your feet.
How Sonic slippers works is that the sole of the shoe will be the tribo-electric generator(power source) as you walk you will generate current that will the circulated the shoe and electric wire will heat-up to 26° celsius, it will not exceed the temperature. This reason is to keep you warm and not get cold. Sonic slippers is saves and generates electricity,instead us using heaters during winter so the tribo-electric shoes would self heating socks,that every time you are walking you would generate electricity.
