San Diego Latino Film Festival 2020_Proposed Identity

The following is my proposal for the 2020 SDLFF (San Diego Latino Film Festival) identity, based on my submission for its poster competition.

Bearing in mind a non-stereotypical representation of the Latino culture, I wanted to create something that makes a reference to it, in a forward thinking way. I decided to depict nods of the culture, so as to avoid the more common approach of an illustrated synthesis, with patterns and colours that are usually connected with it.

The warmth and luminosity of the selected colours felt ideal, as well as the gradient form used for the background, that makes a reference to diversity. I created flowers that are connected with several traditions of the Latino culture, that mix together, and with the background, to further implement the diversity and integration I was aiming for.

The typography is simple, elegant and present, so that it can communicate the information clearly.

The shape of the circle depicts the film reel that can be seen on old-fashioned cameras, as well as the essence of unity, and it makes a reference to the human eye, one of the primary organs used to experience a film.

The neon effect makes a reference to the cinema culture in general, as well as the lights that surround the world of it, and creates a more sci-fi and universal feeling to the viewer.

The essence of the poster is depicted on all of the identity.
