The settlement of art - A book series of theTraditional craftsmanship in Tainan

此次展覽以「臺南古都傳統工藝」三項具代表性的「粧佛、刺繡、銀帽」為主題，探討工藝家的文化符碼，將傳統融入當代元素，轉化為設計語彙，結合書籍設計創作，展現古今風華時代的精神，彰顯地方的文化價值，藉此再造傳統工藝的新風貌。

透過「工藝」重新審思，探尋過去，從當代視角回溯，在民間信仰與宗教活動、文化藝術中，找尋傳統與當代的連結，在諸多宗教藝術的作品裡，除了藝術品本身表象的細緻艷麗外，其內在的價值與意義，更遠超越普遍美學價值。藉由文化脈絡、素材取樣，轉化出當代設計的語彙，展現古今風華時代的精神，在文化藝術中追尋對於土地的認同，試著與傳統藝術對話，使文化開始有了不同的嶄新風貌。透過當代藝術的培育逐漸萌芽，以文化為基底採集、製作，發掘出地方上用心的人事物，將這些美好的過程記錄並傳承，開啟數位生活新的感知與多元的可能性。

土地，是生活最初的根本，孕育萬物、乘載了豐沛的文化價值與情感，連結根基厚植的常民生活。在研究的過程中，了解一切源自於內在，以自然萬物為師，天人一體的思維，讓心回到真實的狀態，體會最真誠的感動，藉由傳統和當代的互動交流，賦予人與土地最重要的連結，感受到唯有聆聽內心深處的聲音，才能領悟此份來自土地的珍貴贈與。

貼近臺南常民的生活，感受土地溫潤敦厚的包容，綻放百花鮮明的色彩，都蘊含著獨特的氣質與美感，有如活力盛開的花朵，職人為了保存民俗文化，堅守遵循古法的韌性與堅持，發揚工藝的傳統精神，使「工藝美學」得以永續傳承。

Re-examining and exploring the past through “craftsmanship”, backtracking from contemporary perspectives, and seeking the connections between traditional and contemporary from folk beliefs, religious events, and culture and arts. In many works of religious arts, while the work itself presents beauty and delicacy, the inner value and significance are far beyond the general aesthetics. Moreover, cultural context and materials transfer the vocabulary of contemporary design, which presents the spirit of yesterday and today. Seeking for the land recognition from culture and arts, attempting to initiate a conversation with traditional arts, and empowering the culture to have a brand new appearance. With the contemporary design sprouts, to collect, present, and explore attentive local people, events, and matters based on the culture. Further to record and pass down these beautiful processes to develop the possibility of new perception and diversity for digital lives.

The land, the root of life that breeds everything with abundant cultural value and emotions, as well as connecting our deeply planted daily lives. During the research to comprehend the inner origins, taking nature as a teacher with the mindset of the holism of man and the universe, bringing the hearts to the genuine conditions, and experiencing the ultimate touching sensation. The traditional and contemporary interactions give the most important relation of human begins and the land; only by listening to the voice deeply in our hearts could realize the treasure presents from the land.

Staying closely to the daily lives of the citizens in Tainan, feeling the tender and gentle tolerance of the land, and seeing the colors of blooming flowers, all of these implicate unique temperaments and aesthetics as if vibrant flowers. To preserve folk culture, artisans insist on following the toughness and persistence in the ancient methods to carry the traditional spirit of craftsmanship forward and pass down the “aesthetics of craftsmanship” sustainably.
