The Army University Overview Booklet
Project Completed: October 2019
This booklet was created over the course of three weeks in collaboration with multiple organizations and leaders as a product to be delivered at the October 2019 Association of the United States Army Meeting (AUSA) as a way to introduce other leaders and organizations to Army University and was commissioned by Brigadier General Stephen Maranian and my director, Colonel Katherine Guttormsen.
The intent of the booklet was to explain what Army University is, who the key organizations are that comprise it, and how they all fit together.
Initially, I only created the Army University Press page found at the end of this booklet. However, once the quality of my work was seen by other leaders at different levels, they requested that I do the entire booklet. I used Adobe InDesign CC to do the layout of all the text and artwork.
Lieutenant Colonel David Jones, the Operations & Plans Officer at Army University, was especially helpful in reviewing text and imagery choices to ensure that the text and images were truly representative of the message that was being conveyed.
Ultimately, multiple organizations and individuals reviewed the text and imagery at various stages of the development of the booklet.
In order to enhance visual appeal I created a series of photo collages from submitted images that depicted important ideas for each organization represented.
Adobe Photoshop CC was the primary tool that I used to create the photo collages. I used masks, smart objects and layer comps in the development process to make it easier to show leaders different versions.
As the final product was a saddle stitch booklet that consisted of 20 pages this page highlighting the priorities was the centerfold.
The organizational chart represented here was created in Adobe Illustrator CC. I had to recreate and scale this from a much larger chart and move it around to fit into this layout.
