Upcycling Shared Bicycle

Traveling has never been so convenient thanks to the advancement of Internet-powered sharing economy. However it has also led to massive pollution and waste of resources. This issue has caught the attention of YUUE, who has decided to use design as method to give a solution. Bicycle parts of wasted shared bicycles are collected and made into elegant and functional furniture pieces. They are then exhibited on the streets of Berlin, Milan and Beijing. By doing this, YUUE criticizes sharing economy which ignores environmental consequences.

As a critique and an idea of saving resources, YUUE uses design as method to convert bicycles parts wasted from current booming bicycle sharing industry into elegant and functional furniture pieces.

Lounge Chair: The main USP of Lite 1.0 is a clean element which is made from a
single steel pipe elegantly bent into a wave, functioning both as frame and mudguard. It is surprisingly ergonomic and perfect as a lounge chair frame.

Floor Lamp: In this product the bike wheel, which is usually held in place by the front fork, is replaced by a lamp shade. The guidance tubes for the brake cable are also ideal for the electric cable of a lamp.

Coffee Table: Four handle bars are welded together to support a tinted glass tabletop.

Candle Holder: By cutting off the ends of the front fork and adding a base it becomes a candle holder.

Desk Organizer: The Mobike model Classic has a special front fork which is cast aluminium with reinforced ribs. By adding an extra layer of plexiglass, the form becomes ideal for storing writing material and adds decoration to the desk.
