Net-Zero Campus Kiosk
This group project focuses on a net-zero, temporary kiosk that would provide students and visitors information about the university as well as teach them about net-zero design strategies. The design of the kiosk sticks to the 24x24 grid which would cut down the carbon footprint of making sheets of CLT anything other than the standard 4ft by 8ft. CLT acts as the main structure as well as the interior finish which gives visitors a unique experience compared to all the glass and steel buildings on campus. The informational kiosk focuses on summer shading, natural ventilation, and natural lighting to keep summer energy levels down. In the winter, the kiosk will be powered by photovoltaic panels which are placed on top of a neighboring 40ft high building. The short ceiling height was decided intentionally, along with our tight envelope design and the inclusion of a vestibule, to keep winter energy costs at a minimum.
