CIIT Million Volunteer Run Tarpaulin

This tarp was used during the Million Volunteer Run last February 2013. Students taking up Civic Welfare classes, as well as the school employees and student volunteers ran to raise awareness and help people in need. I was tasked to do the tarp since I am the head of the Design team of the class.

CIIT goes Code Red to save lives

CIIT takes pride in social responsibility as the college participated in the recently concluded Red Cross Million Volunteer Run 2 last Sunday, February 10, at the Quezon City Memorial Circle. NSTP2 Students under the helm of Professor Ruel David, as well as other interested students, and several members of the faculty and staff started their morning with a run that, according to the Red Cross website, “create a culture of volunteerism in the Philippines that will define the Filipino nation before the whole world.”

Dressed in red shirts, students and employees ran in 3k and 5k distances. They were treated with music from marching bands as they passed the kilometer marks. With Quezon City Memorial Circle as the starting and finishing points, those who took the 5k route took a U-turn in front of PureGold Commonwealth while the 3k group turned in front of Iglesia ni Cristo. Paramedics are on standby throughout the course to make sure that those who get injured were treated promptly. Water stations provided by Manila Water were also placed throughout to refresh the runners.

Confetti from the chopper marked the highlight of the run. After the marathon, runners were treated to a mini-concert by Callalily and a raffle giveaway that gave away appliances, gadgets, gift certificates and cash incentives as prizes. Freebies from sponsors were also given to the tired but happy and accomplished sprinters.

They may be tired from the length of the distance, the scorching heat from the morning sun, and the humidity caused by overcrowding in the course track, most of the participants in the event were all smiles. As some of the people say around as overheard, “It’s a good thing to join because we get to help people in need of Red Cross’ services. Running or having a brisk walk can also improve our health in some way."

The said event is to raise funds and awareness to Red Cross’ programs and services. An example of which is Red Cross 143 which aims to encourage people to prepare their communities for possible risks of disasters and plan them ahead, practice evacuation drills with the townsfolk, and report disasters to the main Red Cross Headquarters. If you like to be a part of the Red Cross 143 and help your community, proceed to the nearest Red Cross chapter near you.
