"Portal 2" August 2019

This. Was. Fun! My high school friend requested a cake topper, knowing I did this on the side and from having been a bridesmaid at the wedding with the Onix and Eevee topper. She wanted the cake topper to be based on the two robots from Portal 2. She emphasized how tall her then fiance is, and how short she is.

I gave myself the challenge of not using any polymer clay, I think even the top hat and bow tie were just hot glue sculpting. I had a plastic Easter egg and I went to Michael's and found a hollow plastic ball. Along with aluminum wire and foam shapes; this may also be the lightest cake topper I've made. Because they were hollow, no baking involved and both being robots; I thought to rig them up with little fairy lights. The companion cube is a carved styrofoam block, with hot glue and foam creating the ornaments around the cube. I also had a six inch limit from the baker of the cake, so I tried to make sure the design fit within the requirements. I only know enough about the Portal series, but I never played the second game, so hopefully this is a nice likeness.
