Portland deserves baseball. After being robbed of their AAA team, The Beavers, a few years ago, I decided it was time to bring the MLB to Portland (figurativly speaking of course). Drawing from Portland's deep and rich baseball history, I landed on the name Pioneers, which was taken from the very first semi-pro team to play in Portland back in 1866. Still focusing on a regional culture that would draw fans, I chose to keep that historical turn of the century look that appeals to many Portlanders. I tried to fuse a few modern elements into the team, including the lighter blue trim and of course Nike as the teams uniforms. The rest is, well....history.
