Lahar - Brand Identity

Name: Lahar

Briefing: Lahar is one of the newest craft cocktail bars to open in San Diego. They consider themselves a part of the "Third Wave of Tiki" which is a term used to describe the recent resurgence of tiki culture and cocktail bars happening in the US and internationally.
Lahar's differentiator is that in addition to making the classics like Mai Tais, Zombies, Jet Pilots, and Painkillers, they also have a section of their drink menu focused on re-imagining tiki drinks using other liquors substituted in for rum. Lahar's mission is to stay true to the spirit of tiki cocktails while striking out into new, uncharted territory.
For their logo design, Lahar wants something distinctively mid century feeling. Think quirkiness mixed with class. References to tiki imagery are allowed, but please don't be overly literal.

Solution: I decided to take inspiration from mid century modern furniture, in particular from the chairs and lounge-chairs from that movement. The furniture is mainly recognized by its clean lines and soft curves, and that's exactly what I tried to emulate in the logo design.
In addition to that, being this a logo for a Tiki Cocktail Bar, I used the mask and colors from the tiki world, but in a more discreet version, so that it could display the class and mid century look desired.
