Pride Protest Party – Typeface and Movement Identity

Protest Party original typeface
Pride Protest Party is a group formed in response to pinkwashing at LGBTQ Pride–a practise whereby companies promote gay-friendliness in an attempt to benefit or to downplay any negative aspects of the company. I formed a group and designed the visual identity with the intention of attending Pride parades and broadcasting the message that a) Pride originated as a protest, and b) if companies are supporting the LGBTQ community during Pride month, this support must be genuine.

To communicate this message I created a typeface, originally painted, that draws elements from both protest and party, and used this typeface on placard signs and banners featuring phrases such as *insert rainbow here* and *support over sandwiches* to pillory empty corporate gestures at Pride.
