Layers of Haiti

When you go to a different place or culture, a new awareness emerges. Having grown up in Florida, visiting Haiti had a huge impact. A place so close to a world I knew felt like another planet.
I was compelled to create this work as a reflection on moods, and the essence of a place, by conveying abstract expressions of the spirit observed in my 3 trips to Haiti. People are absent from the work purposely.I felt I couldn't, justly, depict a people who have been through so much yet possess such strength and spirit. The large pieces reflect actual places, where as, the small panels are  reflections on things observed and remembered.
