The vignetting, fade out and washed out colour were all practical effects achieved in camera, and not digital effects. They were a consequence of the depth of field converter I built (see below).
The film was made using a home made depth of field converter. This device allowed me to use 35mm SLR lens's with a mini DV home video camera. The reason for wanting this kind of lens is that the depth of filed is far shallower, giving the film maker the opportunity to focus the audience on specific elements.
Here you can see the different elements of the DOF converter. At the top is the Nikon lens, which projects onto a spinning diffuser, then the mini DV camera (fitted with a macro lens kit).
