Merops apiaster (common name: European bee-eater) is a bird of the family Meropidae.
As its name suggests, it feeds mainly on insects and as you can see, in the second and third photo, it has captured a dragonfly.
One of the most richly coloured bird I've ever seen.
These specimens were photographed in northern Italy inside a WWF oasis.
