Logo Design: Ministry Of Finance Singapore Budget 2016

The Client
The Ministry of Finance Singapore releases a yearly budget overview that lays out the current government revenue and expenditure projects for the financial year, as well as, planned revenue and expenditure for the next upcoming financial year. Each year, there is a different theme to the budget that reflects the financial focus of the budget.
The Task
Looking to refresh their look, The Ministry of Finance collaborated with Singapore Polytechnic to come up with a new design for the budget logo.

The logo has to be adaptable, being able to appear on many mediums from digital to traditional and also being able to be recognisable regardless of size.
The Process
At first, admittedly, I did not know there was a yearly budget released by the Ministry of Finance so I had to start researching and getting to know my client.

My first experimentations was around how to visually represent the word: "budget". However, it did not work out very well as I felt that the logo lacked depth of meaning.

Taking a look at the past logos, I started to deconstruct it to understand the meanings behind them. And I was inspired by what I found.

I wondered about 2015’s logo and it’s tagline: building our future, strengthening social security. It could have been a just a logo to represent budget but the message of about the budget’s purpose. The national Budget is more than just figures on paper but the foundation for the future. It is a framework for a better future.

The Chosen Design
I was really surprised when I heard that one of proposed designs was chosen from among the other students.

After receiving the news, I was asked to start refining this design so that I can hand it over to the client.

I did not work on any of the collaterals but I have seen my logo being used on them and I am glad to say it fulfilled the brief.
I would like to acknowledge my lecturers that helped me throughout the process as I was shifting through drafts to arrive at the final design. And I would also like to thank The Student Agency for providing me many opportunities to gain experience from working on projects.
