Die Agterpad
A self-reflective book based on childhood holiday experiences.
I focused on the adventures my parents and I went on during my childhood holidays. These adventures consisted of taking all the back roads to our holiday destinations which meant many extra hours in the car. The destinations were usually going to the bush veld, game reserves, desert camps, Namibia or small secluded towns.

Varied ‘printing’ techniques were applied throughout the book. The images I used in the book was thinners transfers to create a textured, faded look. This ties to my concept of old memories. I also used thread and embroidered pages throughout my book to create another texture. The thread represents the fact that I’m bound to the places I’ve visited and my parents.
I’ve created a backpack to hold my book, the bag is hand-stitched to reinforce the thread concept. My book is also done with an open spine bind to see the thread clearly coming through as it ties all the pages and memories together.
