My name is Olena Kayinska. I am an artist.

I speak with my world in the language of colors and forms, and the feeling of the paint and brush is my pleasant addiction. The patience I require for the long hours of repetitive actions transforms into the intense energy and the joy of discovery of what I’ve created. When I start painting, I go as if with my eyes closed and find out what’s the story about only after I put the finishing touches. Storylines of the artworks come to me on their own, often inspired by books. Milorad Pavić, Gabriel García Márquez, Alessandro Baricco, Bruno Schulz filled that inner well, where the images of the future paintings come from. Self-taught as I am, I never dreamt that my passion and admiration for painting would turn into my way of life, would give meaning to my life.

My paintings-dreams take the observers inside, to the subconscious, to the core. Trying to find the inner self, the observer wanders through the imaginary world, fantastic forests, filled with symbolic images and archetypical symbols, inhabited with mysterious creatures, each of which provides a guide to the final destination – our heart. My aim is to make people happier.

My paintings show the endlessness of obvious and unobvious relationships in this world with the help of mysterious storylines with the metaphysical sense. Being the guide between the worlds, I mix reality and magic in a genuine meditative form of my witchcraft. Direct ascetism of the flat surfaces, completeness and persuasiveness of the compositions, seamless statics, graphical coding of the deep sense into the schematic images, order and rhythm of the painting focus the observer’s attention on what is underneath.

I want to return the observers to the pure, sincere and spontaneous experience of the outer world, which we all had in our childhood. Children observe the world as it is, directly, without thinking. My paintings are childishly simple and straightforward. They help recall the child’s state of trust and safety, the state of interest in the world around, the state of fabulousness and love. As if you are being held in hands and told a fairy tale. When we manage to recall this fundamental state and restore the feeling of trust and pureness, the world starts showing us its magnanimous side. My painting are portals of returning to the pure child’s state of mind and to the joy of being.

Diffusion:

The project Diffusion by Alan Meyer became a kind of a true revelation for me. At first, it was difficult for me to get used to the format of the project – it was something between a Plein air and an art residence. We traveled a lot through different cities in Eastern Ukraine. Everywhere I haв to get used to the new environment, seek a new place for work, get settled. But it was an absolute immersion into the atmosphere of Eastern Ukraine; we had a lot of sincere and spontaneous communication with the locals, worked in different studios, from NAOMA to the studio of Olena Klochko in Bakhmut.

I was frankly surprised by Mariupol and Bakhmut. I expected to see tired people, industrial landscapes, plants, polluted air. Instead, I encountered a variety of parks and fountains, incredible architecture, cozy yards of the old city, cats, theater, sea.

Project Diffusion became a breath of fresh air for me. I took me out of my routine and comfort zone and placed me in the middle of the unknown. Still, this unknown was full of bright, awesome and warm people. Diffusion let me feel the stream of energy I craved for a long time.

Я розмовляю зі своїм світом мовою кольорів і форм, і відчуття фарби і пензля є для мене одним із найприємніших. Терпіння, необхідне мені для довгих годин роботи над картинами, трансформується в чисту енергію і радість відкриття того, що я створила. Починаючи картину, я ніби йду із заплющеними очима, і лише поклавши останній мазок довідуюсь, про що історія. Сюжети картин приходять до мене самі, часто викликані враженнями від книг. Мілорад Павич, Барріко, Габріель Гарсія Маркес, Бруно Шульц наповнили ту внутрішню криницю, звідки йдуть образи майбутніх картин. Не маючи художньої освіти, я вчилась малювати сама, і зараз моя пристрасть до малювання стала моїм життєвим шляхом, принесла у моє життя зміст.

Мої картини-сновидіння ведуть досередини, у підсвідомість, до ядра. В пошуках самого себе глядач подорожує крізь уявний світ, казкові ліси, наповнені символічними образами і архетипічними символами, населені дивними істотами, кожна з яких слугує дороговказом до пункту призначення –серця. Моєю метою є зробити людей щасливішими.

Мої картини показують безкінечність видимих і невидимих зв’язків у цьому світі через загадкові сюжети з метафізичним змістом. Як провідник між світами, я змішую реальність і магію в медитативну форму мого мольфарства. Простий аскетизм плоских поверхонь, завершеність і переконливість композицій, цілісна статика, графічне кодування глибокого змісту у схематичні образи, порядок і ритм картин фокусують увагу глядача на тому, що вглибині.

Я хочу повернути людям чисті, щирі та безпосередні переживання навколишнього світу, які були в нас у дитинстві. Діти сприймають світ таким, яким він є, і проживають його напряму, без розмірковувань. Мої картини по-дитячому прості і безпосередні, вони допомагають пригадати дитячий стан безпеки і довіри, стан цікавості до світу, казковості, любові. Так ніби тебе тримають на руках і розповідають казку. Ми забули відчуття безпеки, коли про нас турбуються і нас люблять. Якщо його пригадати і відновити довіру, світ повертається до нас своєю доброю стороною. Картини виступають як портали в повернення до чистого дитячого стану і до радості буття.

Дифузії:

Проект Дифузії Алана Меєра став для мене щирим відкриттям. Спершу, мені було складно звикнути до формату проекту – це щось середнє між пленером та мистецькою резиденцією. Ми багато переміщались по різних містах Сходу України. Скрізь треба було пристосовуватись до нових оставин, шукати нове місце для роботи, наново облаштовуватись. Але, це було справжнє занурення в атмосферу Східної України, багато щирого і невимушеного спілкування з місцевими, робота в різних майстернях, від НАОМА до майстерні Олени Клочко в Бахмуті.

Маріуполь і Бахмут мене щиро здивували. Я очікувала побачити втомлених людей, індустріальні пейзажі, заводи, забруднене повітря. Натомість – безліч парків та фонтанів, неймовірна архітектура, затишні двори старого міста, коти, театр, море.

Проект Дифузії став для мене ковтком свіжого повітря. Він витягнув мене із мого звичного і комфортного середовища і поставив посеред невідомості. Проте, невідомості повної чудових, прекрасних і добрих людей. На Дифузіях я відчула той потік енергії, який так давно був мені необхідний.
