My First EVA
EVA stands for "Extravehicular Activity", which is a more technical term for a spacewalk. This video was largely inspired by the book "Astronaut's Guide to Life on Earth" written by NASA astronaut Chris Hadfield. In one of the chapters, he talks at length about his first EVA experience — how he was dreaming about it, how he had been preparing for it, and how it finally became reality during one of his missions to ISS.

What really struck me was the description of the moment when he suddenly realised that he was actually in space, in front of the planet Earth, facing the vastness of the universe. This very moment of noticing it, facing the brute fact of infinity and void and trying to reconcile it with your whole existence squeezed into the clunky spacesuit — this, really, is the main theme of this film.

I highly recommend reading Mr Hadfield's book if you want to explore the topic further.

This short film has been created using NASA raw footage for the Cinespace 2019 contest.
