VIBRANZA
Vibranza is a family of prints designed for apparel inspired from the rich, vibrant and colourful culture of Mexico.
The target of the project was to create a collection of prints inspired from the design language and ideology of a famous brand in order to learn how to design within the ideologies and aesthetics of a client. The brand chosen for this project was Pineda Covalin, a Mexican fashion design brand whose ideology is promoting Mexican culture on a national and international level. Following this ideology, the collection is created from multiple inspirations from the architectures and artforms of Mexico.
SANTO DOMINGO CATHOLIC CHURCH
The inspiration
Santo Domingo Catholic Church, officially known as the Señor de la Expiración Chapel, the church is located on the north side of Belisario Dominguez and faces the plaza. It is all that is left from one of the first monasteries to be established in New Spain.
JARABE TAPATIO
Colour inspiration
Jarabe tapatío, often referred to as the Mexican folk dance, is the national dance of Mexico. It originated as a courtship dance in Guadalajara, Jalisco, during the 19th century, although its elements can be traced back to the Spanish zambra and jarabe gitano, which were popular during the times of the viceroyalty.
The costume worn for the dance form has beautiful vibrant colours which depicts the extravagant and colourful culture of Mexico.
THE PRINT
The basic unit was made by using techniques like paper collage and poster colour painting simultaneously. The design was drawn and paper collage was done over it, which was then followed by minute detailing with poster colours. Paper collage technique was used for this because of the unique texture it can give to the print, this makes the print very unique and different.
