adidas Samba 4/20 "Purple Haze"
4/20 is celebrated internationally as a nod to the history of cannabis culture and it’s history. For our chapter of the history books I took reference from the Grey Area and the coffee shop culture in Amsterdam; the pioneers of café culture.
The Grey suede toe was initially meant to be all over the upper but feedback was that the shoe needed to be more of a statement piece whilst the original intention was to go under the radar with subtle details. The tongue label doubles as a stash pocket which was referenced from the OG Marathon models and the sock liner labels are re-purposed made in France archive labels which give a nod to the dispensary labels to indicate the strains. The anti-odor sock liner is taken from snowboarding which uses a re-grind coffee in the EVA to mask the “dank” smell. The strobel board had a 20/4 printed on the underside of the tooling so that when you kick back and cross your legs the shoes read 4/20.
