Photo Reference vs CG Image
DREAM THEATRE /// PROJECT BREAKDOWN
Cinema 4D + V-Ray 3.4 + Adobe Photoshop
Step 1 /// Modeling + Lighting
Everything was modeled in Cinema 4D. As lights we used a V-Ray Sun + Sky and a Dome with HDRI by Viz-People (free).
Step 2 /// Shading
One of the main challenges of the concrete material was the reflection. We achieved the result that we wanted by using a map of glossiness downloaded (free) from Poliigon. For the Specular Layer Transparency, we used Angelo Ferretti's "artistic" method, inserting a Fresnel and adjusting the ends to obtain a satisfactory result.
How to avoid texture repetition?
To avoid repetition we carried out a series of cuts that simulated the concrete slabs and individually selected the polygons, assigning to each one a texture with different coordinates (and sometimes even rotations). The physiological repetitions still present have been completely eliminated in post-production thanks to the stamp clone tool of Photoshop.

Step 3 /// Post-production
The post-production phase was quite heavy in this case. We decided to add a desert landscape, as if the architecture was in the Arizona or New Mexico desert and a slightly cloudy sky. Then we added some adjustment layers (Hue/Saturation, Luminosity/Contrast, Curves...) just to achieve the look that we wanted plus some dirt maps to make the material more realistic. Below you can see the various steps.
