Ramus Outdoor Chair

Furniture
Ramus, meaning branch, is an outdoor lounge chair designed to be a rugged backyard retreat. Accommodating both regular and cross-legged seating positions, Ramus is a perfect location for outdoor reading and momentarily escaping the confines of modern living. Built with nearly indestructible Red Balau, a hardwood that resists insects, splintering, decay, and comes with a natural Class A fire rating, the chair is already comfortable in the elements. Combined with an aluminum seat and removable outdoor cushions, Ramus is a chair that can withstand the most extreme weather conditions.
Above are renders produced with Rhino and V-Ray, which includes modifications to the design after testing and building the final prototype.
With time and spacial restrictions, the kitchen of my 200 square foot apartment became a late night workshop, where all the doweling, gluing and sanding took place. Thankfully, I had a very, and I do mean very, understanding and wonderful girlfriend.
Final Prototype, complete and ready for testing!
As a side note, the decision to use Red Balau provide to be the source of much difficuly. It took extensive experimentation to find a gluing method that would hold the joints together, and ultimately resulted in redoweling the frame three times.  Also, the wood has an extremely high silica content, which required switching to carbide bits, and burned up one craftsman drill, the replacement dwalt did just fine though.
