SAVE THE ARCTIC!
A public awareness message that i decided to illustrate for an university project. I picked the topic of "Global Warming", my illustration aims to represent one of the biggest effects, the Arctic is heating up twice as fast as the rest of the Earth, straining ecosystems and causing more sea ice to melt each year. Without its cooling effect, much of our world would look and feel very different. In short our fate is tied to this frozen world, just imagine a world without the Arctic.
challenge
For me the biggest challenge was to show something visually impactful, I want people to quickly understand the situation without needing to add typography for the viewers to know what's going on. It also took me a bit of time to choose the protagonist, I saw many, many, many great illustrations that portrayed the same problem but using polar bears so i decided to go with a penguin an it's child instead, but then i asked myself "how can i make it impactful for the viewers?" and that's when the idea hit me. "a confused chick that is about to lose it's parent due to global warming"

I personally liked how it turned out, i had a bit of difficulty choosing the colors that represent heat, but i feel comfortable with my take on Global Warming, hope you guys like it.

Final thoughts
I really got interest in this topic because the Arctic is home to more than 4 million people, including Indigenous communities. They're slowly losing their home, for millennia people lived in the Arctic alongside some of the most elusive and majestic animals, and in some of the toughest conditions anywhere on Earth. But now all that is changing. The Arctic is heating up rapidly. i would love to do more public awareness illustration in the future because we need to open our eyes and see the big effects of climate change, we can stop the destruction of the Arctic.
