"The Hunting of the Snark" is an experimental book illustration project. Compositionally the biggest task was to create illustrations in the way they could work properly one by one and all together as well. You can leaf them through page by page and open into a big poster or carpet))))

The poem concept by itself brought me an idea of book construction — in the world you can't define what's right and what's not, where you can never be sure where is floor and where is ceiling spiral way of opening became a good metaphor for it's weirdness, madness and "normal rules" powerlessness.
All 25 illustrations + cover were created in linocut technique. It requires some features and rules, restricts you in some point. But on the other hand it became my way of feeling Carroll's Great Britain — probably one of the most traditional and conservative countries, but definitely having it's flavour.
Character and environment design was easy and difficult at the same time — following the text you'll find no rational descriptions of somebody or something. So as illustrator I had all the freedom I could have.
Also a cardboard case was designed for protection purpose.
"The Hunting of the Snark" was featured on annual international contest "Image of book" in Moscow
