A conceptual project that draws on the evocative wildness of the North East coastline. A dual approach, on the one hand plays strongly on design of movement; a crematorium and memorial landscape creates a clear journey of mourning and remembrance. The design is kept simple to allow personal interpretation and an adaptation to individual thoughts.
A more subtle approach to design takes is used to translate and reinstate the derelict magnestie. This area has simple interventions that aim to reveal existing qualities and potential. Hartlepool Magnesite has had a rich heritage, playing a key role in the social and economic development of Hartlepool and so its memory cannot simply be erased. By maintaining and working with the iconic forms the site can be reinstated as a place in Harlepools current culture.
