Onyo! – community-driven emergency notifcations system
Current official, government based emergency notification systems have simple flaws – too wide area for notifications (e.g. a whole voivodeship) and slow reactions (someone „higher up” has to agree to send a notification first) to name a few. Onyo! (suahili for „warning”) is a simple mobile app that allows people to send reports about emergencies they are currently witnessing (e.g. severe weather conditions or a terrorist attack). All verified alerts would then be sent via push notifications or text messages to all registered users in the specific area that may be influenced by an emergency (based on their real-time location or pre-selected area of interest).
