Canadian Mine in 360 is an educational project for miners apprentices, taking part in the Modular Training of the Mining Workers, made for the Professional Training Centre of Val-d'Or (CFP Val-d'Or). Using VR headset and headphones, apprentices immerse themselves in their work environment for the first time during training process. With the 360 interactive experience, they practice their knowledge about security and secondary scaling, before going underground for the first time.
Shooting 360 videos in a mine
Because of the environment, shooting 360 footage in a mine is not that easy. Dampness makes it necessary to protect cameras and microphones. Mines are also the darker environment in which you could work, and without any electric plugs in the galleries it was absolutely necessary to bring lights with batteries to light up the environment. Moreover, the mine is still active. This means that risks can happen like falling rocks, or water coming through the ceiling of the gallery. It also means that vehicules, air ventilators, horns are used. Those sounds are loud and they can not be stopped for the shooting.
