Poetry Africa in the biggest poetry event hosted in south Africa annually. For the past few year, this brand give graphic design student an opportunity to design the annual brand identity of the brand as a way to give exposure to the young and emerging designers.

Through poetry, I believing the youth is moving to a place where they are able to speak and have a voice. I see Poetry Africa as a new revolution or the rebirth of a revolution, where is not about just one person speaking, it’s a group of artistic people who shares different life experiences, united by the one voice that is to shapes the future
for the current and next generation.

My poster design, both, have the same concept which is The Renaissance of revolution. Its a rebirth of a revolution through poetry. There are two major elements, the typeface and the silhouette illustration. The silhouette illustration of people represents the youth standing up driven by the revolution to a better tomorrow. The typeface is bold and sharp abstract font with abstract shapes as supporting elements. The font feels very African and also youthful. I chose to add an abstract shape at the back just to create depth between the foreground and back. My overall colour is red and orange. Red is a very strong and powerful colour, it stands our and it also a colour that represents determination. Orange is youthful colour. Orange is known to represents creativity and being mindful of things.
The second poster (balck and red) was selected as the
2019 Poetry Africa Runner-up poster.
