Disdain Inspired by William-Aldophe Bourguereau
Originally, this piece was just meant to be a study in human form with paint, but I ended up entirely recreating it. I was inspired by Bouguereau’s style and ability to communicate emotion. Since the original is titled Disdain, I wanted to create this mood of contempt through body language and a deep color pallet. From this work, I expanded my talents in color theory.

Splicey
After completing the artistic study, I wanted to make the piece more dynamic. Beforehand, I had always been afraid to use additive and subtractive mediums to my final pieces of art. So, to break this fear, I started slicing the portrait into different sections. Not only did I want to add my own flair to the work, but I wanted to transform the original into a modern, spacious piece. Breaking up each individual portion of the portrait and offsetting them enabled a new mood entirely. The woman looks distraught and broken up-- an interesting difference from disdain.
