Image 1: This is an abstract self portrait that uses different colours and cuts of balloons. The colour, although may not be immediately obvious, was actually used to try and replicate shadows by using darker colour balloons and white for the highlights.

Image 2: This illustration is a monochromatic rough sketch using different dilutions of tea and a small fan brush.

Image 3: This portrait used brown rice grains. It was the most time consuming as each grain was placed and rotated individually. Although also monochromatic, the more raw grains of rice were used as the iris as they were closer to green than the tan colour that they normally are.

Image 4: After heating up a candle, I used a short and thick brush to roughly outline the my main features. After the wax dried, I used water colours to fill in where the wax hadn't been painted.

Image 5: Using a pair of scissors, a fan brush and some chalk, I was able to create a loose interpretation of my own image. I had to combine red, yellow and tan to get the desired skin tone as well as a yellow and blue to make green for the eyes.
