Navnirmiti Eduequality is a Non Profit organisation that aims to make practical methods of teaching Mathematics and Science mainstream teaching methods in India. They keep organizing Math fairs time to time in different places to popularize the practical teaching and learning methods.
This fair was organized at a govt. school in Mumbra, Thane, 10 km North of Mumbai. It was attended by over 5000 students from 13 schools and organised by 100 teachers and 130 student facilitators.
We covered the event which lasted for 3 days. With 70+ GB of sorted footage from the 3 day shoot, we edited the above film and another 30 min film which will be used for training the student volunteers and teachers in the upcoming Math Fairs. The above video was made for Navnirmiti to promote and spread awareness about Math Fair and to help them raise funds for their future non profit educational events.
I went to the location when preparation for the event was going on, a few days before the fair started to take test shots, get an idea of the kind of lighting that we will have to shoot in, look for spaces with good lighting at particular times of the day that can be reserved for interviews and also, to look for children who will be able to fluently speak in front of the camera during the event.
This was my first time covering a live event and my major realization and learning from this project was that shooting at a live event also requires a lot of pre-production work like when producing fiction.
