Universal Zoom: All About Sizes and Distances | Apple TV | UX/UI Design
An unique educational app designed for Apple TV
Concept
Due to the impressive growing audience of users of Universal Zoom app and the successful launch of Apple TV by Apple, was decided to open the new development project for Universal Zoom app design. My role as Interactive Designer in this project was to create an absolutely new app interface and user flows for the new platform, Apple TV.
Challenges & Solution of Menu Screen Design
During the brainstorming and first usability testing has been discovered a new UI issue with Apple TV remote control. Staying with the same concept idea and sequence of gestures I had to define the importance of adding the Menu View which one was unnecessary in iOS version before. The flows were changed according to the new information architecture. It helped the users to get the same feelings through their app user experience.
Sketching and User Flows
Keeping in front of me basic information architecture, it was time to sketch out different interactive ways for consumers. I designed a series of sketches of different layouts.
Menu Screen Design and Animation
The big difference in gesture behavior between iOS phones and remote control in Apple TV didn’t allow me to use the standard structure of Apple TV top menu. First usability test showed the issue in usage of the swipe gesture on Main View and gesture that pops up at the top of the menu in the wrong time. To get rid of this misunderstanding between gestures I’ve created a separate Menu Screen as an additional view. From there a user can clearly understand his next steps without interrupting.
