As humans, we constantly long for a sense of connection, feeding our desire to invest in relationships with animals. To what extent do we use pets as objects of affection or people-replacements? Could we be displaying signs of narcissism through our sense of entitlement to the natural world? We are a species of contradictions: we anthropomorphize animals, objectify living creatures, and long to connect with people yet gravitate toward less intimidating relationships with animals. My work serves as a catalyst for discussion about the psychology behind human-animal relationships and the vulnerability that exists among both humans and animals.
