The Biotopia project invites the public to participate in a collaborative science program around plankton. Our project consists of an observation kit of plankton, adapted to the smartphone and made with the public. The objective is a collaborative device to develop the critical thinking skills of participants. First of all, the participant is invited to create his own plankton observation tool, called Exoscope, in a workshop or using plans available in open access. An application is used to help identify plankton in stages. The participant will first take a photo of the samples captured, then it will enter in the analysis space. These data will feed a virtual plankton space.

This immersive space is a kind of common database in which it is possible to move freely and learn more about the plankton species that the other participants have observed. He will be able to choose his universe according to the place where he took the plankton, it could be a fountain, a river or a lake, or others. The virtual space will gather data from the user community, functioning as a meeting and exchange space. Scientists will also be able to participate in this space to provide their expertise on planktons.
