'Flight of the C.A.T.'
'Flight of the C.A.T.' Digital Illustration

‘Flight of the C.A.T.’ is a bit of a visual pun; as a long-time admirer of the superb SF Illustrator Chris Foss, and SF author Iain M. Banks, I have tried to combine two elements of these greats. Those ‘in the know’ will get this….
The image is based on a scene from the excellent Iain M. Banks Sci-Fi novel ‘Consider Phlebas’:
Hurriedly attempting to leave ‘Vavatch Orbital’ – a million mile diameter, landscaped, free-floating space habitat – ‘Kraiklyn’s Free Company’, aboard their ship the ‘Clear Air Turbulence‘, or ‘C.A.T.’, are hastily abandoning the humungous GSV (General Systems Vehicle) ‘The Ends of Invention‘, where they had stopped off to conduct some nefarious activity. Alas, things did not quite go to plan….
‘Flight of the C.A.T.’ is one of two pieces I contributed to the latest ‘Aurora‘ online exhibition, which has the theme of ‘Yellow’. My other contributution was ‘Artifact’.
