The Science of Character Animation by Markus Magnusson: Character Design & Blocking
Markus Magnusson launched a brilliant course via Motion Design School called 'The Science of Character Animation'. I'm taking it now and will be updating this Behance project with progress. Here's an introduction to proportions in blocking out character design:
A human being is around 7 and a half heads tall, while Markus' cartoon characters are around 5 and a half heads tall. A child/ stylized cartoon character is around 3 heads tall. This basis helps play with proportions while blocking out a character.
Using a base proportion is helpful while experimenting with different character designs. Here's a few sketches of some upcoming characters.
The next step is fleshing them out in Illustrator!
