McLaren Design Story
McLaren (name you may already heard form tech rumors back then ) was imaging hero planed in 2014,2-LA founder Xiaoxi SHi was lead designer behind this product
it features some of killer experiences which is still inspirational today, :
1: 3D hover touch technology allows user has seam;less access to content in any condition
2:Dual cameras provide layered images that opens new world of imaging experience
the biggest challenge that McLaren faced was to taking beautiful Lumia design language into metal
This is the most challenge part during design process, to make LTE antenna design works with full metal body , visually take big leap from metal ring design, it still looks boldly impressive today
dual cameras provides cutting edge imaging experience from true 3D depth to layered images
LESS TECHNICAL MORE HUMAN
Softer Iconic form makes metal more approachable and human,Creating sensorial tactility through metal surface texture, enhancing the feel in hand, evolving new metal character.
3D Touch technology is integrated with sculpted 3D glass that flows beautifully with the structural metal unibody.
Wireless technology not just make charging experience better but also enables possibility of other wireless experience like payment
Confident neutral metal expressions, driving Light, Dark and Black metal
A unique and authentic implementation of metal with enhanced structure, durability and thinness
Delivering physically seamless junctions with seamless approach between metal and polycarbonate
Sophisticated integration of components, for a simple & reduced appearance. NFC and wireless charging coils are smartly composed together inside camera detail with dual lenses
We hope this share can give people who finished viewing some inspiration of smart phone design, McLaren is unfortunately never see the light of day as product, but we think the design thinking behind McLaren is still valuable to world, when we look back, McLaren took so many risks and challenges to achieve the beautiful balance of design and engineering, and most important , the design still feel powerful and exciting now.
