This project was inspired by an assignment to build an addition to the High Line. To start my partner, Lily Bowman, and I went to the park to survey our site for green spaces, wind paths and sun paths. We mapped our observations from the High Line to visualize our site as a whole, including photos that I took at the park.
Once we had mapped our observations, individually created proposals for an addition to the High Line. I decided to create elevated rooms inspired by railroad cars with a Ferris wheel inspired transportation system. This project acts as both an art exhibition and a new way for people to enjoy the High Line. These rooms display black and white art facing the High Line and colorful art on the other side, creating a sense of wonder as people cross over from the High Line. Each room has windows in different places to change the room's experience and the way that people inside will interact with the people on the High Line and the art surrounding them.
This image shows a floor plan of one of the rooms and how this project relates to the High Line.
