Costume Design: Forward Fashion- Gun Violence

Forward Fashion was an independent study project in which I created wearable art to represent different social issues that affect my generation. This piece represents gun violence. I live in a time when we have a lock down drill every month at school and where we walk on the streets with the knowledge that a mass shooting can happen at any time. This inspired me to create a Hollywood-style dress on this subject, which is a commentary on how this subject has become over-politicized.  The white dress represents a certain purity which is tainted with the red of the blood. The front has singed holes with red borders to represent bullet holes. The back has the same holes but mirrored with “blood” flowing out, represented by red tulle. The neckline has a silver lining to depict the metal of the bullet.
