Young Agrarians
University Project

The market landscape in Canada today shows that we need innovative, creative and dedicated farmers to carry us into the future. Our farming population is shrinking; less than 2% of our total population live on farms. According to Fraser Basin Council's 2010 Sustainability Snapshot, More than 50% of farmers in BC are over the age of 59— less than 5% of farmers in BC are 34 years of age and younger.

Young Agrarians is a grassroots initiative to celebrate, connect and recruit young farmers in Canada. This society is made up of the movers and shakers of the new agrarians movement. Through leveraging technology, Young Agrarians is building an online and offline community of people who want to grow good, clean, and fair food. One does not have to be a farmer to be a Young Agrarian, one can be a new entrant into agriculture, a promoter, or a supporter from the country to the city. This society is all about fulfilling ways of putting culture back into agriculture and helping new farmers to provide and to succeed. www.youngagrarians.org
