DEATH IS ONLY THE NEW BEGINNING
funzine art project

What happens with the physical body after death, how death is the source of new life?

The theory behind this zine is the duality of matter /materia/ and potential /potentia/ in every living being. These two
are in complete harmony and balance in the micro and macro universe as well. However, in different phases of life
and death one can dominate the other. In the first, ascending phase of life potential  is stronger than matter. After time the tissue of matter starts to overrule potential. It is the second, descending phase of life which concludes in death.

But death is only the beginning.

Every spread of this zine represents one step in the de- and recomposition of matter and potential. It is a complex process of transformation and transition from death to a new life. After death the physical body starts to decompose.
It is still strongly connected to the living world and the people in it who feel strong grief /luctus/. This connection weakens with time, the dead goes to oblivion /oblivio/. The constituents of the physical body breaks up /fissum/
and the hidden structures of matter and potential starts to appear /structura/. The elements seperate from each other /discidium/ until matter and potential stands in their pure and independent form. After some time of tranquility the elements start to mingle again /contactus/ and they create new links /combinatio/. The more the links the more variations of connection are made /divergentia/. The new physical body takes form but it needs some more maturation /maturatio/ which results in the new life /vitae/.

Base photographs were taken in the Kerepesi Cemetery, Budapest, Hungary
