Karawo Cookies Gorontalo

On November 10, 2018, Gorontalo has been authorized as one of the creative cities in the culnary subsector by The Indonesia Creative Economy Agency (BEKRAF), with the aim to introduce the unique culinary of Gorontalo City throughout Indonesia. One of them is a traditional cookies that is located in Gorontalo City it was Karawo cookies. Karawo cookies processed traditional pastries since 1970 and has a characteristic of painting patterns or floral ornaments on the cookies, and the process of making the patterns still relying on hand (handmade masterpiece). However, so far there is still constraints that is about the unavailability of identity and marketing of the Karawo cookies in Gorontalo City. In marketing of the Karawo cookies still has not expanded its marketing segmentation due to lack awareness towards media. In addition, there is still no identity design that can not build the image in the consumer’s mind.

In this design, it contribute to the form of identity that can represent the value of culture and handicrafts that acquire from observations, interviews, and some documents while designer in Gorontalo City. Designer used the process of idea design, rough design, comprehensive design, and final design for designing this visual branding. In the process of designing, designer uses manual drawing techniques in paper and digital tracing by using some software such as Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. The visual design of Karawo cookies branding generates several products, such as guidelines book, stationary set, promotion, and merchandise.
