The Golden Age
“The Golden Age” is an album cover I created for JayKeyz's second album of the same name. Although the final album cover is static, the gif above was a mock up for a potential lenticular cover. This comp was created in Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects for the movement.
Here's a gif of the process in PS. One of the challenges I faced in designing the character was texturing the head piece and clothing. I knew I wanted it to be light, like a shimmering mesh/net material, but was having problems making it work. In earIy sketches I could get away with minimal detail, where the clothing just looked like solid cloth and a couple of crisscrossed lines. Actually rendering the pieces posed more challenging. After free handing it a few times, and trying to hid it in the paint strokes, I decided to make my own patterns in Illustrator.
By making a large coil pattern, then combining copies together, I was able to make all types of wonderful patterns to add that bit of texture I was looking for.
I hope you all enjoyed this as I much as I did making it. Let me know if you have any questions or comments and thanks for viewing my project!
